About Metabolic Psychiatry Labs

Metabolic Psychiatry Labs (MPL) is pioneering a new approach to mental health by targeting its metabolic roots. We provide specialized psychiatric care to patients with Serious Mental Illness, integrating evidence-based psychiatric treatment with metabolic medicine — including ketogenic dietary therapies, metabolic biomarker analysis, and digital interventions — for conditions such as depression, bipolar disorder, treatment-resistant psychosis, and obesity.

Our treatment model is grounded in emerging evidence connecting metabolic dysfunction to psychiatric disease and was developed out of Stanford. We apply structured interventions — nutritional, pharmacologic, and behavioral — within a longitudinal care framework, and we are building a patient- and provider-facing application to bring these therapies directly to those who need them most.

Position Overview

This is a rare opportunity to practice at the frontier of psychiatry. You will work directly alongside our medical director to deliver high-acuity, metabolically-informed psychiatric care to a growing panel of patients. You will help shape how this emerging care model is applied in practice, contributing to clinical protocols, case discussions, and the ongoing refinement of our approach.

If you are looking to do your most meaningful clinical work and grow alongside a mission-driven team building something genuinely new, this role is for you.

Key Responsibilities

Direct Patient Care

○ Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management via telehealth for patients with serious mental illness, including depression, bipolar disorder, and treatment-resistant psychosis

○ Integrate metabolic data — including laboratory biomarkers, dietary adherence metrics, and clinical trends — into individualized psychiatric treatment plans

○ Partner closely with our medical director, Registered Dietitians and nutrition coaches to coordinate metabolic interventions, including ketogenic dietary therapies, alongside psychiatric care

○ Maintain a longitudinal therapeutic relationship with patients, tracking progress across psychiatric and metabolic domains over time

○ Provide culturally sensitive, compassionate care with a high standard of clinical documentation

Clinical Collaboration

○ Collaborate actively with the medical director on clinical decision-making, protocol refinement, and patient-level treatment planning

○ Maintain timely, high-quality clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards

○ Participate in structured weekly clinical case conferences with physician leadership and the broader interdisciplinary team, presenting and discussing complex cases

○ Participate in clinical operations improvements and contribute to building scalable care delivery infrastructure as the practice grows

○ Engage with emerging research in metabolic psychiatry and participate in a culture of ongoing clinical learning

What We're Looking For

Credentials & Experience

○ PMHNP (Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner) board certification required, obesity medicine is a plus

○ California licensure required, active licensure in additional states strongly preferred, particularly FL, NY, TX, and VA

○ Solid clinical experience in psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and pharmacologic management

○ Prior experience delivering care via telehealth

Location

○ Strong preference for California resident

Clinical Approach

○ Interest in the intersection of metabolic medicine and psychiatry — prior experience with or knowledge of ketogenic diets, metabolic health, or nutritional psychiatry is a meaningful plus, though not required

○ Rigorous, hypothesis-driven clinical reasoning: you approach complex patients with intellectual curiosity, not diagnostic shortcuts

○ Genuine openness to non-traditional frameworks and emerging evidence; comfort sitting with uncertainty in a developing field

○ Comfort interpreting and acting on laboratory and biomarker data in a clinical context

Working Style

○ Adaptable problem solver who proactively finds solutions to improve clinical efficiency

○ Self-directed and organized: able to manage a longitudinal patient panel and asynchronous communication in a fully remote setting

○ Comfortable operating in an early-stage, evolving organization with ambiguity where processes are still being built

○ You care about doing this work well and contributing to something larger than a typical clinical job

Compensation

● Competitive compensation aligned with market rates for experienced PMHNPs, commensurate with experience, licensure, and location

● Opportunity for company equity
